Yes, Shakespeare is a mixed bag. He wrote 38 plays, of which probably only a dozen are really famous and memorable, never-mind the sonnets.

I am not saying he was bad – just that his complete works are not the unalloyed genius that his best plays are.

It was apparently sourced from the BBC Greatest Books survey, but it is not the same list as the one on the BBC web site so I didn’t mention the attribution. I think the appropriate phrase is “unknown provenance”, or possibly “made up by someone”.

“Wasp Factory” isn’t that great ihmo. I didn’t enjoy it that much. “The Bridge” by Mr Banks I can recommend (but you know, wouldn’t up your score).

“The Three Musketeers” is a classic as is the “Count of Monte Cristo”. Definitely worth a read.

What is “Bridget Jone’s Diary” doing on there? How does that pap get on there while there’s no work by K Vonnegut on the list?
