Opening Lyrics Quiz II – The Quickening
March 14, 2010 – 12:00 pmBelow are the lyric fragments of 16 opening (or closing) themes to “classic” TV shows for you to guess. Feel free to post your answers in the comments, using Google is cheating…
- Baby, if you’ve ever wondered,
Wondered whatever became of me,
I’m living on the air in Cincinnati… - Friendly faces everywhere
Humble folks without temptation. - I won’t go
I won’t sleep
I can’t breathe
Until you’re resting here with me - Yes, no, maybe
I don’t know
Can you repeat the question? - The Earth began to cool,
the autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall – WE BUILT THE PYRAMIDS! - Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed. - Love, exciting and new
Come aboard, we’re expecting you.
Love, life’s sweetest reward.
Let it flow, it floats back to you. - Here we come
Walking down the street
We get the funniest looks from
Everyone we meet. - Every stop I make, I make a new friend,
Can’t stay for long, just turn around and I’m gone again
Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
Until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on. - Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away? - In West Philadelphia I was born and raised
On the playground is where I spent most of my days.
Chillin’ out, maxin’, relaxin all cool,
And all shootin’ some b-ball outside of the school. - Hey baby, I hear the blues a’calling,
Tossed salad and scrambled eggs
And maybe I seem a bit confused,
Yeah maybe, but I got you pegged! - No matter what the odds are this time,
Nothing’s going to stand in my way.
This flame in my heart and a long lost friend
Gives every dark street a light at the end.
Standing tall on the wings of my dream.
Rise and fall on the wings of my dream. - Hold me in your arms
Don’t let me go
I want to stay forever
Closer each day - If you want to, I’ll change the situation
Right people, right time, just the wrong location
I’ve got a good idea, just you keep me near
I’d be so good for you - Out here in the fields,
I fight for my meals
I get my back into my living.
I don’t need to fight
To prove I’m right
I don’t need to be forgiven.

I can’t believe no one’s playing this one. It’s fun:
1: WKRP in Cincinnati
2: South Park
4: Malcolm in the Middle
6: Beverly Hillbillies
7: Love Boat
8: The Monkees
10: Cheers
11: Fresh Prince of Bel Air
12: Frasier
That’s all I got. How’d I do?
By James Wells on Mar 16, 2010
Perfectly correct, as far as you went. You got all of the ones I would expect you to get – some of the others are a little obscure if you didn’t grow up in a commonwealth country.

Oh I get it, “not bad… for an American.”

#16 = CSI New York
By Chuck on Mar 17, 2010
Roydon is on fire today – less than 10 minutes after I emailed him his comment with 14 correct answers appears, including Perfect Strangers and Minder which I thought were the hard ones.
Chuck is correct with #16.
Anyone know #3? I guess it was nobody’s favourite show.
By Andrew on Mar 17, 2010
I suspected #16 was CSI something, as they all used songs from “The Who”.
Perfect Strangers is one of those shows I enjoyed growing up, so I found that very easy.
Minder was also easy. The song “I Could Be So Good For You” is performed by Dennis Waterman who stars in the show. I have it on CD.

Wow! Perfect Strangers! I used to love that show. Thank you YouTube for preserving such classic hilarity.
By James Wells on Mar 18, 2010
I had to cheat to finally find out, but I can see why no one got #3.
Everyone had better taste than to watch “Roswell”
By Chuck on Mar 22, 2010
Roswell was the trap question designed to catch lame people (like Smallville was in the last quiz).
Anyway, that’s all of them.
